Orbits. Eyelids. Face. Lacrimal system. These are the domains of oculofacial plastic surgery. Birth defects, cancer, trauma and the aging process can all alter the periorbital region. These surgeons rebuild, reconstruct, renew and make whole again. The UCSD Division of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is an internationally recognized leader in patient care, teaching and research. Dr. Kikkawa and Dr. Korn have pioneered innovative operations and techniques that have become the standard.
Very grateful for superb care and kindness.
Marcie and I are very grateful for Dr. Don Kikkawa’s superb care and kindness, and we much appreciated his thoughtful follow-up call. Denise transferred the call to me so quickly that I had no time to thank her for her kind and patient attention. I am sure that I have come close to driving her crazy, and yet she has been extraordinarily patient and responsive.
I would like to take this opportunity to note that, while all of the Shiley Eye Institute’s staff, including the anesthesiologists, are wonderfully kind and professional. Three individuals with whom Marcie and I have interacted repeatedly – Tony Aranes, RN, Ashley Abney, RN and Michele Littrell, NP – are especially outstanding and noteworthy for their exceptional kindness, professionalism, and knowledge. They each have a unique ability to induce calm and confidence in patients at times of maximum insecurity and anxiety.
With many many thanks.
Sincerely,
Mike Oxman (and Marcie)
Professional, impeccably skilled, confident yet humble
"Over the last 20 years I have done a number of surgeries at multiple medical facilities over the country, and have been cared for by many doctors. Dr. Korn is one of the very best physicians I have encountered.
Professional in demeanor and impeccably skilled in oculofacial surgical arts, Dr. Korn has a keen perception of individual patient needs and renders flexibility in assessing and delivering medical care. He listens to his patients carefully and observes unobtrusively, and, despite his eminence and accomplishments, never came across as egocentric as some surgeons do. Confident yet humbled, caring and mild-mannered, Dr. Korn seems to encompass a range of intellect and emotions that allows him to connect well with his patients at a level that reflects understanding of and sensitivity to the psychological attributes of both male and female patients, making patients feel understood and respected. Dr. Korn performs surgeries for both pediatric and adult patients in both reconstructive and cosmetic settings, with impressive online and internal reviews from parents as well as elderly patients. His friendliness at times could mask his professional essence, making him resembles a benevolent brother figure--an image that sometimes may cause concerns (as if surgeons are supposed to be more distant or stoic than friendly) but which I think would help nurture trust and comfort level with patients. Dr. Korn also mentors medical students, residents, and fellows, a blessing that will comfort and reassure many that a culture of compassionate medicine practice can pass on to the next generations of doctors, regardless of many existing and foreseeable hurdles encumbering our society's health care system. I take comfort in knowing there will be more Dr. Korns helping Boomers like me as well as Gen Zers like my kids in college and grad school."
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Sau-King
