21 Shiley Faculty Members Rank in the Top Worldwide by Expertscape
The Shiley Eye Institute (SEI) and the Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology is pleased to announce that 21 faculty members have been recognized by the website Expertscape as either “Experts” or “World Experts” in one or more medical conditions. These faculty are ranked as experts in over 200 medical areas in ophthalmology, surgery, medicine and research.
This is a particularly noteworthy distinction, as Expertscape uses the data from the National Institute of Health’s PubMed database to identify and objectively rank physicians and researchers as experts based on topic, condition and diagnosis. This expertise ranking is utilized by healthcare consumers and referring physicians to quickly find and consider specialists in specific diagnoses, procedures and conditions.
To be considered an Expertscape Expert, the faculty member needs to be ranked among the top 1% worldwide in research and publications in a specific medical topic, and to be recognized as an Expertscape World Expert requires the top 0.1% worldwide. Shiley’s ophthalmology clinical expertise spans over 200 areas including topics such as glaucoma, retinal diseases, corneal diseases, hereditary eye diseases and African continental ancestry group studies.
