On Tuesday, October 12, 2004, Dr. Stuart
I. Brown, Chairman and Professor at the
Shiley Eye Center, spoke to Circle of Sight members
about where the Department of
Ophthalmology has been over the past 20 years and plans
for the future. He brought the
audience back to 1984 when there was no Shiley Eye
Center, but rather a mere trailer that
housed the “UCSD Eye Center.” Thanks to
grateful patients and generous donors, Dr. Brown
was able to raise money to build the Shiley Eye Center,
which was completed in 1991. Dr.
Brown went on to highlight other Shiley milestones,
which are listed on pages 14-15.
Just a glance at Shiley's accomplishments over its
first 20 years, this list only begins to illustrate
the major growth and innovation that makes the Shiley
Eye Center
such an amazing
place! EVERYONE at Shiley contributes to the successes
everyday. Let's all wish the Department
of Ophthalmology at UCSD a happy 20th anniversary!
