Weldon Haw, M.D.

Clinical Assistant Professor
 

Weldon Haw, MD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Shiley Eye Center and Chief of Ophthalmology, SD Veterans Medical Center. He is a Cornea, Refractive, and Cataract surgery specialist who served as Clinic Chief at the Stanford University Department of Ophthalmology and Director of Refractive Surgery at the Stanford University South Bay Eye Laser Center. As a faculty member at both Stanford University School of Medicine and UCSD School of Medicine, he has trained many medical students, researchers, residents, and ophthalmologists.

Dr. Haw graduated from UCSD Summa Cum Laude and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society. He was also awarded a Howard Hughes Research Fellowship at UCSD. Dr. Haw received his medical degree from UCLA where he graduated with Honors as part of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society. He was a Chief Resident and fellow in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Stanford University and was a recipient of the prestigious Thomas D. and Ruth Byers Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship awarded to a select group of the Nation’s top Ophthalmologists. He was also elected to America's Top Doctors in 2002 and America’s Top Ophthalmologists in 2003.

Dr. Haw has several research interests and has authored over 90 peer reviewed publications, book chapters and national and international lectures and courses. He has been a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Peninsula Eye Society, American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, and Association for Research & Vision in Ophthalmology, Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists, Mayo Clinic Proceedings Reader Advisory Board, and International Society of Refractive Surgery. He has served as a reviewer for multiple journals including the Journal Cataract & Refractive Surgery, Journal of Refractive Surgery, Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, and British Journal of Ophthalmology. His research has been featured by such distinguished media as ABC News, Ophthalmology Times, Ocular Surgery News, EyeWorld, EyeNet, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Academy of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
