Felipe A. Medeiros, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and the Ben and Wanda Hildyard Chair for Diseases of the Eye at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. He is also the Medical Director and Director of Visual Function Research at the Hamilton Glaucoma Center, UC San Diego Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Medeiros is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in the clinical and surgical management of all forms of glaucoma and cataracts. His research interests encompass many different areas in glaucoma, including the management of challenging glaucoma cases and new surgical procedures, cataract surgery, advanced imaging analysis for the diagnosis and detection of glaucoma progression, new techniques for intraocular pressure measurement, functional impairment in glaucoma, and prediction models and risk assessment in glaucoma.

Dr. Medeiros has been ranked by Expertscape as one of the top 5 Glaucoma Researchers in the World over the past decade. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles in major ophthalmology journals. In addition, he has published 4 books on the evaluation of the optic nerve, visual field and intraocular pressure in glaucoma. He is the principal investigator on a National Institutes of Health (NIH) R01 Grant to study functional impairment in glaucoma. Dr. Medeiros has received several honors and awards in ophthalmology including the Best Doctors in America, World Glaucoma Association Research Award, Clinician Scientist and Mid-Career Awards from the American Glaucoma Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award, South African Glaucoma Society honorary member, Federal University of Sao Paulo Special Recognition Award, Iranian Society of Ophthalmology Recognition Award and the Ronald Lowe Medal from the Australian and New Zealand Ophthalmology Society. Dr. Medeiros is an elected member of the prestigious Glaucoma Research Society and serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the World Glaucoma Association. He is also member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Glaucoma.
